Joann Schweitzer

August 26, 1930 — March 25, 2024

JoAnn (Markt) Schweitzer (August 26, 1930-March 25, 2024)

JoAnn Schweitzer was born in Forrest City, Missouri. Her parents, Harold and Lucy Markt preceded her in death as did her three sisters and one brother.

JoAnn's family moved to Kansas City, and she attended Central High School.

After school she met John Schweitzer, and they were married in 1953. They celebrated 53 years of marriage before John's passing in 2006.

JoAnn and John had three daughters: Debby Heapes, Cyndi Griffith and Shari Baumann. They were blessed with five grandchildren: Matt Heapes, John Griffith, Melissa (Heapes) Davis, Chris Griffith, and Lindsey Baumann.

JoAnn also loved spending time with her six great grandchildren.

JoAnn loved making the holidays, especially Christmas, special for her whole family. Somehow, she did all the shopping, wrapping and most of the cooking and was ready and dressed "to the nines" when the whole family arrived. She also loved her lake house where she and John spent quiet time and welcomed family.

JoAnn moved to Santa Marta senior living for the last 17 years of her life. As one of the first residents of the community, she had many good friends there. The family would like to thank the staff at Santa Marta and the good people at Catholic Community Health hospice who helped JoAnn through these last months.

There will be a private graveside ceremony. Donations in JoAnn's memory can be made to Catholic Community Health.
