Dorothea JoAnn "Jody" Scott Cain Furman, 87, of Olathe, passed away on February 2, 2019, in her home at Aberdeen Village.
She was born on June 25, 1931, to Donald and Florence (Ulery) Scott in Denver, CO.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald E. Scott, Florence Scott Sampson, and Ross D. Sampson; husbands, Clifford G. Cain and Courtney A. Furman; brothers, Donald E. Scott, Jr. and Jack C. Scott; sisters, Nonie Van Detta, Sue Bingham, and Lynne Flette.
She is survived by her sister, Claudia Sampson Boyle; her children Teresa Cain Eaves, Clifford R. (Cindy) Cain, Richard B. (Rosanne) Cain, C. Arthur (Sally Click) Furman, Carolyn Furman (Tunde) Olagbaju, and Andrew N. (Julie) Furman; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A music lover from her childhood, Jody was an accomplished vocal performer singing in musical theater during high school and college, with Horace Heidt's big band, The Musical Knights, on the radio in the 1940's, the Shreveport Women's Ensemble in the 1960's, and in various church choirs throughout her adult life.
She worked as an Administrative Assistant to the Dean of Students at the College of the Ozarks for twenty-two years and in 1998, following her retirement, received an award for meritorious service from the college Alumni Association.
Visitation will be held Thursday, February 7, 2019, 1:00 -3:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Cremations, Funerals, and Receptions, Olathe, KS.
A memorial service will be held Friday, February 8, 2019, 1:00 p.m. at Aberdeen Village.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February, 11, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. preceded by a brief visitation beginning at noon at First Presbyterian Church in Branson, MO.
Burial will take place at Ozarks Memorial Park in Branson, MO.
