JOAN REDINGER

Joan Redinger, 85, passed away April 26, 2010, at her home in Olathe, Kansas.
Born one of seven children of Harold and Bertha Eldridge on June 21, 1924, in Cheltenham, England, Joan's adolescence was largely influenced by World War II during which Joan volunteered for the Red Cross and other war-related agencies. Ed Redinger met Joan when he was stationed in Cheltenham working as topographical engineer or mapmaker. They were married on July 14, 1945. They settled in Olathe, Ed's home town, where they lived, raised a son, ran a business (Burns Printing), and enjoyed the company of a wide circle of friends. When Joan's sister Kit died, Joan opened their loving home to her 11-year-old niece Becky and raised her as their own daughter.

Always proper and polite, Joan's British accent was just one of her many unique and endearing attributes. Joan was generous, outgoing, and fun-loving. She kept a beautiful home and she loved to entertain friends and family. Full of style and grace, Joan was also a good listener; she took a genuine interest in others and their endeavors. She and her husband loved traveling and wintered in their Daytona, Florida, home for several years.

Joan was Ed's business partner at Burns Printing. She was a retired member of the Daughters of the British Empire and was naturalized as an American citizen in November 1994. She belonged to the American Legion Post 153 Auxiliary and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary for over 40 years.

Joan loved animals and worked actively for the Humane Society for many years.

Joan is survived by Edward Redinger, her devoted husband of nearly 65 years, her beloved son Alan Redinger and Mary Ann, of Ponce Inlet, Florida; a sister, Doreen Webb, two nephews Rob Webb and Homer Hubbard. Extended family also includes Richard, Katie, Stephen, Christine, and Abby Vohs (and many many more who loved her and thought of her as family.)

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Animal Haven Animal Shelter, 9800 W. 67th St., Shawnee Mission, KS 66203 or Special Olympics of Olathe, c/o Olathe Trailblazers, P. O. Box 768, Olathe, KS 66051-0768.
