Joan L. Brown , 93, of Olathe, ( formerly of Marysville, KS) passed away on August 28, 2020 at Benton House of Lenexa.

She was born on October 9, 1926 to Herbert and Ruby (Selzer) Kendall at Tulsa, OK.

She graduated from Baker University and was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority . It was here she met her future husband, Ray L. Brown. Their marriage in Tulsa, OK on August 10, 1947 lasted 49 years.

Being an avid reader, Education was always an important aspect of Joan's life. She was employed as an Elementary School Librarian with the Unified School District No. 364 in Marysville, KS for 20 years. She was awarded Master Teacher of the Year in 1983 by the Marysville, KS Teachers Association.

Religion was also important to Joan as she was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Marysville, KS and the Grace United Methodist Church in Olathe, KS. At Grace UMC she helped established the Learning Opportunities for Older Adults and served as the church's librarian for many years.

Joan enjoyed reading, cross-stitching, and traveling. She loved going to Elderhostels and bed and breakfasts with Ray and later on cruising with her traveling buddies. At Christmas time, friends and family always looked forward to her annual Christmas poem and German Lebkuchen cookies. She was proud to be a PEO Chapter FL "Golden Girl".

Joan is survived by her loving sons, Kendall and his wife Robin and Gregory Brown, and his wife Mary Jo, grandchildren Jocelyn Onde, Jared Brown, and Jordan Brown, and 4 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and her brother, John Clark Kendall.

Private family services will be held. Burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Kansas City, KS.
