Jo Ann Smith, 64 of Overland Park, Kansas passed away on March 30, 2015. She was born January 22, 1951 in North Kansas City to Joseph and Fern Powell. She graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1969. She graduated from The University of Missouri Kansas City in 1973. She married Glenn Banks Smith on September 12, 1974. She worked as an accountant at Spencer Fane Britt & Browne LLP. She lived in the Kansas City area, was a life-long fan of the Royals, Chiefs, and Kansas Jayhawks; spent summer nights in her pool. She loved gardening and road tripping on scenic tours of Colorado.
She is survived by her husband, Glenn, who has retired from Johnson County Community College; one brother, Thomas Henry Powell and their children, Mary and Tony; a mother-in-law, Marjorie Smith; a sister-in-law, Susan Giles and her son, Michael Longdon. Glenn and Jo Ann have two children, Brooke and Jamie. Brooke lives in Overland Park, KS and is a field manager for PFLAG. Jamie lives in Overland Park, KS and is a registered veterinary technician at Falcon Valley Animal Hospital. She is survived by several "adopted" daughters; Jennifer, Kim, Laura, Stephanie, and Gemma.
