In Loving Memory of Jimmy "Jim" Clifford Archer
Written by Carol Archer
Jim Archer, a man of faith, courageous and loved by his family went home peacefully to his Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus on January 26, 2017 in Olathe, KS.
Jim was son of Clifford "Chip" and Lillian (Erickson) Archer. He was born Feb. 7, 1941 in Van Nuys, California. His youngest years were in Pacoima, California. He had a younger sister, Judy (Archer) Casamessina and recently through DNA testing he found out he has a half sister, Linda Danciart and brother-in-law,Ted who live in California. They quickly became close family. Jim also has three nephews in California, John, (wife Renee) Scotty, (wife Saida) and Matthew (wife Edy) and their children.
Jim's early childhood years were in Pacoima, California. Then the family moved to Van Nuys, CA.
About 1956 at age 14 Jim went to a Youth for Christ meeting at Birmingham High School in Van Nuys. His high school buddy, Fred had invited him to go. That is where Jim first heard the good news of Jesus. He accepted the Lord into his life at that meeting. He remembered he "walked home full of joy" knowing his sins were forgiven. He did not grow much in the Lord until years later.
His first job as a teenager was at Shadow Ranch in Canoga Park, CA. It was an all girls ranch and he did maintenance work. Jim lettered his high school years in gymnastics. In 1959 he enlisted with the U.S. Marines for four years. From 1964 to 1970 in California he was a Baker for Roma Bakery before moving to Kansas. In Kansas he went to Community College, Wyandotte County and got his Real Estate License about 1977. He also got his Insurance License. Most of his adult years of working in Kansas were with Wonder Bread and Frito-Lay. After he retired from Frito he worked part time as a school crossing guard. He really enjoyed the school kids and their parents.
Some people from White Church in Kansas City visited his home which began a process of revival in Jim's life. He was soon driving the church bus, teaching Sunday School, got licensed to preach, performed marriage ceremonies, did some circuit preaching where Baptist churches needed him.
Jim had four children from his first marriage, Gary, Tammy and Debbie (twins) and youngest was Danielle.
Jim's second marriage, was to me, Carol. We met at Pearl St. Baptist church and later married June 1981 in Paola, KS. Jim adopted my very young boys, David and Michael and loved them.
We moved to Olathe, KS. We began attending Liberty Chapel in Olathe, KS about 1984.
Jim preached 22 years at Royal Terrace nursing home. He was quite fond of the residents and they were always so happy to see him. His whole adult preaching life he struggled with anxiety and 'fear of the people' but he pressed on with the Lord's help. Often he would start singing in the midst of a message.
His in-laws were Bill and Thelma Pingry. He loved being with them and enjoyed his mother-in-laws cooking and their generosity and faithfulness in the Lord. Jim was thankful for the time he was in good health and could play with his young grandchildren, Jenna, Leah, Brendan and Oliver. There were lots of times of laughter, hugs and kisses. He liked his smiling daughter-in-law, Joni to visit him.
He also thought a lot of his older grandchildren, Amber, Quentin and Ryan and cherished the time he spent with them.
Jim liked to play a game with his brother-in-law, Bud every Christmas. They would see who could answer the most quotes from the 1983 movie, The Christmas Story. He appreciated all the thoughtfulness of his sister-in-law, Patsy. His two nieces Sarah and Tracey and her husband, Chris were also special to him.
In the summer of 2013 Jim was diagnosed with lymphoma cancer. He had a stem cell transplant August 2014. In spite of much doctoring and numerous hospital stays Jim kept his joy in the Lord and also liked to joke around. He had a group of people who surrounded him in prayer. He read his Bible every morning during breakfast, watched numerous Christian TV programs and went to Liberty Christian Life Center as he was able.
January 15th he had fallen at home which caused him to be admitted to Olathe Medical Center. The morning of his home going to Heaven I had read him some scriptures and he said, "Amen, amen".
I am sure Jim is so happy to be face to face with Jesus and know the full reality of The Heavenly Father's love for him. Well done good and faithful servant.. His desire was and is that all his family and friends would know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. He is in the grandstand of heavenly witnesses cheering you on.
We miss him but we shall see him in glory. Thank you all dear family and friends for being a part of his life in so many wonderful ways.
