Born to Doris Elizabeth Hickman (Morrow) and Dwight M. Hickman at their home on August 20, 1940. He graduated from Stanley High School in 1958. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jeanne Hickman, sons Matt Hickman (Jodi) of Stilwell, KS and Mark Hickman of Lenexa, KS and daughter Melisa Hickman of Olathe, KS. He absolutely loved his grandchildren; Haley, Austin Hickman (Brooke) and Jenna Hickman, Jake and Melanie Long and Evan Hickman and his four great grandchildren.
Jim was an incredibly hard worker and worked for N.E. Bird Nursery for 12 years prior to his career of 32 years with Contractor's Supply/Hertz Equipment.
His gardening skills were epic, and he could grow anything in almost any soil. His tomatoes were shared and loved by many, but he also loved to grow radishes, lettuce, sweet corn, potatoes, onions, peppers, beets and various fruits.
He will always be remembered as kind, gentle and polite. He lived by the golden rule and was loved by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Phoenix Hospice.
