Jim Neil Cook, age 59, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 24, 2020 surrounded by his loved ones and in the comfort of his own home in Olathe, Kansas. Neil was born in Monett, Missouri in September of 1961. He graduated from Cassville High School in 1979 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in 1978. Neil was honorably discharged by the United States Marine Corp in 1985 and enlisted in the Army National Guard the same year. He was honorably discharged and retired from the Army in 1999 and accepted a Civil Servant position in 2000. After many years of service, he retired in 2019 and moved to Olathe, KS to be closer to family. A beloved husband, father, son, brother, and grandfather, Neil has battled colon cancer since 2015. His family believes that this is not a battle lost, but rather a battle won as he now can be with the Lord and free of pain. He was preceded in death by his father, Mike Cook. He is survived by his wife, Mary Cook, mother, Shirley Goin, 3 sisters, Michelle Cook, Brandi Kavanaugh, and Tonya Riggs, and three children, Trelanie Welker, Camren Cook, and Rachel Righi. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Mark, Dominic, Bailea, Coleman, Lily, Emma, and Grace. Neil was loved by many and will be remembered for his playful personality, boisterous voice, and his immense love for his family and friends. Close family will be invited to attend a small Celebration of Life at the family home at a later date. Neil has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Saint Jude's Hospital in his name.
