Jewel A. Davis Waggoner, born May 3, 1915, in Dodge City, Kansas, died August 19, 2014 in Olathe, Kansas. She was a lifelong resident of Dodge City until her move to a Wichita retirement center in 2001, and then to a nursing home in Olathe in 2006.
Mrs. Waggoner was the last surviving sibling of the eight children of Robert E. Lee Davis and Mary Lillian Bethel Davis, both members of Southwest Kansas pioneer families. Mrs. Waggoner was preceded in death by her husband Willard A. Waggoner and their son Bill Lynn.
Mrs. Waggoner may be remembered as the owner of Town Food Market, located on Dodge City's east side. The family operated the store for a number of years, garnering a host of loyal customers and friends. Their residence was fondly known as "Wag's Place" for almost 50 years. She was active in a number of east side school and community groups.
"Aunt Jewel" was beloved, and is survived, by a host of nieces and nephews of three generations who treasure memories of her humor, grace and love.
