Jerry Young, 81, of Overland Park, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2024 at Brookdale of Overland Park.
He was born on February 12, 1943 to Lester and Cassie (Sheldon) Young in Topeka, KS where he worked on the family's farm and eventually the local Dairy Queen. He graduated from Washburn Rural High School.
In 1969, Jerry joined the National Guard, where he earned an honorable discharge for his service as a helicopter mechanic, an experience that likely fueled his love of tools and dirt-track racing.
Jerry spent his 40-year career at IBT Industrial Solutions, working his way up from a clerk to Branch Operations Manager, overseeing several store locations and expansion activities in the Midwest.
In 1990, he married the love of his life, Jo Martin and they lived in Olathe, KS with their dogs Julie, Ginger, and the indomitable Daisy the pug.
Jerry is survived by his daughter, Vanessa Harrington, son-in-law, Keith Harrington, grandson Mitchell Mays, step-grandson, Jack Harrington, sister Vivian Herrmann, brother in-law Alan Herrmann, and several adoring nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Martin-Young.
Visitation will be held on June 7 at 4PM, at Penwell-Gabel Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Olathe, Kansas.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, June 7, 2024, 5:00 pm at the Penwell-Gabel - Olathe Chapel, Olathe, Kansas.
Memorials are suggested to Always and Furever Midwest Animal Sanctuary.
