Jerome Michael Black "Jerry or JB", 80, of Overland Park, KS passed away on January 12, 2020.
Jerry was born to the late George Francis Black and Theresa Marie Black (O'Keefe) on October 4, 1939 in Atchison, KS. He was the youngest of nine children. He graduated from Maur Hill High School in 1957. Jerry and his late wife, Alette Feldkamp, lived for nearly 30 years in Prairie Village, KS and Lake Lotawana, MO.
In the late 50's, Jerry built rocket engine parts to power Minuteman missiles in a secret location in San Jose, CA. While still living in CA, he entertained his host of nieces and nephews while working in quality assurance for Mattel Toys. Upon returning to the Kansas City area, Jerry worked for KC Flour Sales and completed his career as a Tool and Die Maker.
Jerry was an active member of St Ann's Catholic Church in Prairie Village, KS and Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Lee's Summit, MO when living at Lake Lotawana. Jerry and Alette loved to travel to Reno, Lake Tahoe, Hawaii, and Cannon Beach, OR. During their retirement years, they became snowbirds during the winter months in Panama City, FL. Jerry was also an avid KC Royals and Chiefs fan!
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents George & Theresa; siblings Mary Ann Fleming (Donald), Theresa "Terry" Schafer (Louis), Charlie Black (Shirley), Maurice Black, George Black (JoAnn), Joseph "Joe" Black, Nancy Bellinger (Al), Robert "Bob" Black (Billie) and his step-daughter Kim Feldkamp. Jerry is survived by his step-children Tanya Feldkamp (Dennis) and Kris Feldkamp (Cathy); and a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Ascend Hospice, Overland Park, KS or Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas, Overland Park, KS
Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. and a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 31, 2020 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church located at 1800 MO-150, Lee's Summit, MO. Interment immediately following at Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery, 7601 Blue Ridge, Kansas City, MO.
