Jeremy Adam Helling, 44, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 20, 2022. He was born on January 11, 1978 in Overland Park, Kansas and raised by his Grandma Crystal. Jeremy spent his early years playing soccer and reading comic books. As he grew up, he was introduced to a band called Phish, launching his love of music.
Jeremy's humor will be greatly missed by all. He was as handsome as he was witty and smart. He was typically seen wearing t-shirts that were sure to make you laugh. He will be remembered for his brilliant mind and entertaining jokes.
Jeremy enjoyed music and loved attending concerts. He was both a hippie and a rocker at heart. His favorite bands included The Grateful Dead, Kiss, Phish, and Van Halen. When he met Tobi, his wife, he found his partner in life. Jeremy was the love of Tobi's life. Together, they raised two girls. He shared his love of music, sports and Star Wars with them, teaching them all along the way. He also enjoyed traveling to the beach or Colorado with his family. But above all, spending time with his girls was Jeremy's favorite.
Jeremy was a 15 year veteran of South Metro Fire Protection District serving as a Captain Paramedic with his most recent promotion in July 2020. Jeremy also served West Peculiar Fire Protection District as a Firefighter/Paramedic from 2007-2015 and as an Emergency Department Technician at Belton Regional Medical Center and Menorah Medical Center. During his time at West Peculiar Fire Protection District, Jeremy rescued a victim from a structure fire and was honored with a Great Save Award in September 2010.
Jeremy was dedicated to remembering his fallen brothers with his participation in the Kansas City 9-11 Memorial Stair Climb since its inception in 2011. Most recently, climbing in memory of Jeffrey Giordano, Ladder 3.
Jeremy is survived by his wife, Tobi; two daughters, Ruby and Maizy; and all of his in-laws who loved him as their own. He is also survived by his mother, Theresa Gomez, and siblings Sean, Morgan, and Anthony. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Fred and Crystal Helling.
