Jerad Bickford, 24, of Olathe, Kansas passed away on February 19, 2014, by taking his own life at his home. Jerad was born on July 21, 1989, at Great Bend, Kansas, the son of Darwin and Deb Bickford.
Jerad, a 2008 graduate of Olathe Northwest High School was actively involved in the Aerospace Engineering Program and First Robotics, Team 1710. Following his graduation, he attended the University of Kansas as a Summerfield Scholar and was a SELF Engineering Leadership Fellow. Jerad, a Trustee's Scholar and the Lora Bond Award recipient, graduated Magna Cum Laude from Drury University in 2012 with a degree in Biology. Jerad was also Co-Captain of the Drury Ultimate Frisbee Team and Co-Founder of the Drury Brewing Club. Following his graduation, Jerad briefly attended UMKC Dental School while he was a Quality Assurance Intern at RSA, the Security Division of EMC. Most recently, as founder of Bickford Consulting, LLC, Jerad worked as a WIFI Data Project Manager for Time Warner Cable. Jerad also founded REPKC.
Jerad loved music. From rock to classical his playlist was always full. Rock on Delta Sol Revival! Jerad loved spending time outdoors. He received the rank of Eagle as a member of Troop 11 at Christ the King Church, Topeka, KS. Jerad also loved spending time with his family and friends; most recently taking a ski trip to Colorado with his girlfriend of several years, Melissa Hollon. His new best friend was found in his dog, Pickles. The two of them were inseparable and spent countless hours together.
Jerad was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Clifford Bickford and Day Rueschhoff.
Survivors include his parents, Darwin, Springfield, MO and Deb, Olathe, KS, a sister, Lauren and a brother, Connor, both of Olathe, KS. Also surviving are his grandmothers, Pauline Bickford, Maple Hill, KS and Phyllis Rueschhoff, Hays, KS.
We are celebrating Jerad's life with a visitation to be held Sunday, February 23, 2014, from 7:00-9:00pm Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 16000 W 143rd Street, Olathe, KS, followed by funeral services on Monday, February 24, 2014, at 10:00 am also at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Burial will take place following services in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, 13901 Black Bob Road, Olathe, KS.
