Jeanne Kay Owens, 67, of Olathe, passed away on July 24, 2024.
She was born on May 18, 1957 to William A. Hammer and Clarice L. Hammer in Marion, Kansas. She lived in Newton, KS until the age of 14, when her family moved to Olathe, KS. She graduated from Olathe High School in 1975. On March 26, 1977, she married Vernon J. Owens. Jeanne and Vernon lived in Olathe, KS.
Jeanne worked for McCray Lumber for almost 45 years, first at the Olathe lumber yard as a member of the office staff, and then at the main corporate office handling accounts receivable, retiring in July 2021.
In addition to spending time with her immediate family, her many cousins, and her friends, Jeanne loved decorating her home and crafting. She quilted, sewed, painted, embroidered, worked wood, refinished furniture, baked, and made everything she touched beautiful. She especially loved children, watching her nieces and nephews, and then her great nieces and nephews grow up. Her warmth and laughter were infectious.
Jeanne is survived by Vernon, her loving husband of 47 years; her daughter Lesley A. Owens and son-in-law Derek F. Briles; her parents William and Clarice Hammer; her siblings and their spouses Rita and Steve Hunt, Mike and Patty Hammer, Dennis and Janet Hammer, and Eric and Becca Hammer.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents William R. and Lola R. Hammer and Henry L. and Ethel M. Collett.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 2 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm followed by a celebration of her life at 3:00 pm at Penwell-Gabel Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Olathe, KS.
