Jeanne L. Hickman

October 7, 1946 — June 4, 2024

Jeanne Hickman, 77 of Spring Hill, KS passed away June 4, surrounded by her family. A visitation will be held from 4-5 PM on June 14 at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home with a memorial service following at 5:00 PM.

Jeanne was the oldest daughter of Noble E. and Ann M. Bird. She was a lifelong resident of Kansas City and graduated from St. Joseph High School in Shawnee in 1964. She was recently preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Jim Hickman. She is survived by her brother Mike Bird (Carla) son Pete; sister Jan Miscannon (David) and their daughter Bethany; sons Matt Hickman (Jodi) of Stilwell, KS and Mark Hickman of Lenexa, KS and daughter Melisa Hickman of Olathe, KS. She adored her grandchildren; Haley Hickman, Austin Hickman (Brooke) and Jenna Hickman, Jake Long and Melanie Long and Evan Hickman. She also had four great-grandchildren that she loved to spoil.

Jeanne was an amazing cook and expert pie maker. It didn't matter what kind, apple, cherry, peach, pumpkin, she could even make a gooseberry pie tasty. As long as she remembered the sugar.

She loved to travel, anywhere anytime. She loved trips to local lakes, Branson, Colorado, Las Vegas, New York, San Francisco, San Antonio, Oregon and Washington, and Wyoming. She once went on an Alaskan cruise with our grandmother. Growing up, we didn't go to the beach because Jeanne wasn't known to be a "beach person". In 2014 we visited Destin, Florida on the FUF Tour and it changed her mind about beaches. In 2015, she helped plan a family trip to Turks and Caicos which was her absolute favorite trip of them all.

"Nana" Jeanne worked at Tech. Inc. in Lenexa for 16 years and worked for the Olathe School District in Administration for 12 years before her retirement. She collected many lifelong friends among her coworkers. She most definitely treasured her lunches and visits with all members of her THROBS group. She will be surely missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Phoenix Hospice In Time of Need.
