Jeanette "Jan" Newland, 57, of Olathe, KS became an angel on July 19, 2017 after a heroic 4 year battle with leukemia. She was born on October 6, 1959 to Jerome Babor and Ann (Holden) Perry in Garland, TX. Jan was raised in Miami, FL where she met Grant Newland, the love of her life. Following Grant's work they moved to Boca Raton, FL and later to Overland Park, KS in 1995. They were blessed with 4 amazing daughters.
Jan wore many hats but first and foremost she was a momma and wife. Jan assisted the local schools daily for anything needed. After the girls got older, she joined Children's Ministry staff at United Methodist Church of the Resurrection, continuing to display her love for kids. After raising her girls, she and Grant downsized, moving to Olathe, KS. Shortly after the move she was diagnosed with leukemia. She was little but a mighty fighter and continued to leave all around her in awe of her strength.
Jan always put everyone else's needs above her own, ensuring that everyone around her was OK , including staff at KU Hospital and Oncology Clinic who became her personal adoring friends. She was selfless and passionate about life and family, and loved couponing with her sister Ann. It was always about getting the deal!
She is survived by her loving husband, Grant Newland, daughters Kimberly Carbonara of Kennesaw, GA, Amy George of Vero Beach, FL, Rebecca Daharsh of San Francisco, CA, Samantha Newland of Washington, DC, Beverly Newland of Boca Raton, FL, and a multitude of close family and friends.
It was her wish to be remembered in a celebration gathering of family, to be planned in Florida in the near future.
