Jean Margaret Duguid(Mendenhall) passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2009 at Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Olathe, KS. She was born September 24, 1918 in Kansas City, Missouri to Harry Edgar and Mary Kirk Mendenhall. Jean graduated from Shawnee Mission High School in 1938, and married Edward J. Duguid August 25, 1938. Edward and Jean joined the First United Methodist Church (now Grace United Methodist Church) in Olathe, KS. They were happily married for over 38 years until his death September 5, 1976.
Jean served 17,833 hours of volunteer work at the Olathe Community Hospital since 1978. Jean dedicated her entire life to her family and friends, making all of their lives bright, cheerful and blessed. Her family and friends, as well as the wonderful staff and volunteers at the Good Samaritan Center, will miss her warm greetings, humor, and gracious love. In addition to her parents and her husband, she is preceded in death by her sister Virginia Hartley Carmichael and her brother Kirk Irving Mendenhall.
Survivors include Mary V. Stuteville (Darrel) of Olathe, KS; John E. Duguid (Linda) of Denver, CO; Blanche M. Wallace (William) of Virginia Beach, VA; Gene A. Duguid (Janice) of Smackover, AR; Thomas E. Duguid (Judith)of Colorado Springs, CO; Roger A. Duguid (Connie) of San Francisco, CA; and Donald E. Duguid (Vicki) of Platte City, MO. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren ranging in age from 23 to 47, 8 great-grandchildren ranging in age from 2-18, and numerous nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Hospice of Olathe Medical Center, or to the Good Samaritan Society.
