J.C. Brown

December 14, 1947 — July 22, 2022

Jay C. Brown, 74, of Olathe, passed away on July 22, 2022.

He was born on December 14, 1947 to Bob T. and Clydena (Rachels) Brown in Stigler, OK.

He graduated from Choctaw High School in Choctaw, Oklahoma, where he ran Cross Country.

After graduation he enlisted in the Army and proudly served our country in Vietnam from 1966-1969 and was honorably discharged. Jay was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Service Stars, Expert Rifle Award, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and National Defense Service Medal.

Once Jay returned to the states, he entered college and was awarded a scholarship to run Cross Country at University of Central Oklahoma. He also attended Bethany Nazarene College in Oklahoma and majored in computer science.

Jay ran in numerous marathons, half marathons, 15k, 10k and 5k runs.

Jay worked as a computer analyst for several companies including the Oklahoma Department of Corrections; Resource One International; Ciber, Inc; then worked in the warehouse at Garmin before retiring in 2014. He worked part-time at Hobby Lobby before completely retiring due to health issues.

On May 9, 1986 he married Vicky (Lutz), and they made their home in Oklahoma City before moving to Lee's Summit, Missouri then settling in Olathe, Kansas.

Jay became involved in youth soccer when the soccer club needed a "coach" for his son's team. So, Jay "learned" the game, went to coaching school and earned a National "C" coaching license. He coached numerous boys' and girls' teams throughout the years and was president of the NW OKC Soccer Association for many years. His famous quote was "Daredevils never quit". After moving to Missouri, Jay was selected to be on the Missouri Olympic Development Boys Coaching staff. After his children finished soccer, he took up wood carving and carved beautiful walking sticks and wands – oftentimes with and for his grandkids.

Jay is survived by his loving wife, Vicky; his children Tim Brown, Amy (John) Edge, Creigh Morgan, Samantha (Russell) Caldwell, and Kim (Don) Delana; his ten grandchildren Kimberly Brown, Holden Brown, Darwin Brown, Emerson Brown, Noah Edge, KayLee Edge, Mia Morgan, Rivington Caldwell, Lindsey Delana, and Ashley Delana; and his brother Dwight Brown, sisters Geneva Metz, Bobbie Ward, Deanna Wallace, and Vickie Horton along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
