Janell had an exciting childhood as a daughter of a missionary, she lived her early childhood years in Mexico and Argentina. She attended college at MidAmerica Nazarene College where she received a degree in psychology and sociology. She later met and married her husband, Kevin, in Overland Park, Kansas. They had their first son Nathan in 1982 in Elgin, Illinois. They then moved around the United States and had their second son, Jared in Nashville, Tennessee in 1994. They moved back to Olathe, Kansas in 1995 where Janell started working at MidAmerica Nazarene University where she worked for 20 years. During this time she became an avid sports fan, especially of MNU basketball, attending nearly 350 games in those 20 years. She was very involved in her church community at College Church of the Nazarene through Greeting and serving as a Stephen's Minister. Even when not in those roles, she enjoyed sharing her testimony and love of Christ with all those she came in contact with at and outside of church.
Through this time she devoted herself to her sons especially when she became a single mother. Later, her greatest joy in life became her two grandchildren Henley and Colton. She will always be remembered as a caring and loving mother and grandmother and as a faithful follower of Christ.
