Jane Louise (Morrow) Carr passed away on March 10th, 2025, at the age of 89. She was born on March 21, 1935 in Des Moines Iowa to Arthur A. Morrow and Louise Wylie Morrow.
Jane spent most of her childhood in American Samoa, where her father served as the Chief Magistrate. The family returned to the United States following the attack on Pearl Harbor. She completed high school in Marquette, Michigan and then earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Missouri.
Following college, Jane spent a few years working as a journalist in Europe. She then worked as a magazine editor in New York and Boston. She married James (Jim) Martin Carr in 1969, and they moved to Des Moines, Iowa. Jane worked as a legislative researcher in the State House while Jim worked as a photojournalist.
They had one son, Jonathan, in 1971. For many years they traveled and continued to work in journalism and publishing, finally settling in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. After retirement in 1994, they moved to Columbia, Missouri and then to Olathe, Kansas a few years later.
Jane was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Olathe. She was an avid reader and liked to learn new things. She enjoyed Scrabble and word games of all kinds. She was a generally quiet woman, but always had a kind word and smile for others. She and Jim were inseparable, an example of faithfulness clear to their end of days.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents and older brother, John Morrow. Her devoted husband Jim passed just a few months before her. She is survived by her son Jonathan (Rachel) Carr of Olathe, Kansas and her granddaughter Anna (Noah) Hoskins of Overland Park, Kansas.
A graveside service honoring Jane will take place on March 17th, 2025 at Olathe Memorial Cemetery, located at 738 North Chestnut Street, Olathe, Kansas. The service will begin at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Good Shepherd Hospice of Olathe.
