James Logan Wright passed away on September 17, 2008 at the Veteran's Administration Medical Facility in Leavenworth, Kansas after a battle with cancer. He was born April 12, 1920 in Waxahachie, Texas to James Logan Wright and Lola Curlin Wright. He attended Trinity University and served in the Army Air Force in Africa, Europe and the Middle East during World War II. He married Stella White Wright on August 30, 1946 in Dallas, Texas, and completed his education at Southern Methodist University earning a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1947. From 1947-1960, he worked in management for Sears being transferred throughout Texas. In 1960, he and Stella purchased a Ben Franklin store in Wilburton, Oklahoma which they operated until they retired in 1986.
Mr. Wright was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wilburton, at which he served as an Elder. He also was a President of the Wilburton Chamber of Commerce and had been active with the Kiamichi Economic Development District Organization. He was a member of the Wilburton Lions Club where he served as both President and Zone Chairman. He was also a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 3649, Wilburton.
He and Stella had two children, James Logan Wright, Jr., who predeceased him, and Elizabeth "Libby" Wright Tyrrell. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Stella White Wright, now of Overland Park, Kansas; his daughter Elizabeth Wright Tyrrell and her husband Terry, Overland Park, Kansas; his two grandsons, David Michael Tyrrell and John Wright Tyrrell, Overland Park, Kansas; his sister Margaret Wright Tatum, Longview, Texas; and extended family including nieces and nephews.
The family will hold a private memorial service and, in lieu of flowers, requests contributions in Mr. Wright's memory to First Presbyterian Church, 112 E. Blair Avenue, Wilburton, Oklahoma 74578. He will remain in our hearts forever.
