James Wendell Shelton, 74, Gardner, Kansas, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2012. The family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association and/or the funeral home.
James was born December 19, 1937 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was a 1956 graduate of Shawnee Mission High School. During his high school years he was active in football, track, drill team, athletic club and the "Blue Notes". He also attended attended Missouri University. He was a resident of Olathe for 30+ years.
He was the consummate salesman - very personable, funny, smart, witty, memorable and interesting to other people. He worked for Macy's where he sold furniture and carpet. He sold satellite TV technology, golf carts and hardware. And he worked many years at Stewart Appliance in Olathe. He wasm most recent employment was First Student Bus Service in Olathe.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and attended the Olathe 1st Ward and Gardner Ward, where he was a Priesthood member.
He married Janice Burton Shelton of Olathe, who preceded him in death in 2004. He is survived by wife Barbara Selena Cook-Shelton (of Gardner), a son Jaye Shelton, a sister Jane Forsberg (of California), grandchildren; Clayton James (of Raymore, MO) and Hayley Shelton (of Warrensburg, MO), stepdaughter Synthia(Ken)Wilson (of Olathe, KS) and stepson Stan(Tiffany)Mars (of Colorado), step grandchildren; Selena and Clayton Wilson, and Kandace Mars (of Wichita, KS), a niece Martha Myung Coleman and a great nephew Christoper James Coleman (both of California.)
