James Sydney Pipe, age 81, passed away on April 28, 2012 after a long battle with Alzheimer's and other ailments. Jim was born on September 30, 1930 in Salinas, CA to Samuel and Ethel Pipe. He worked with his father during his youth on the farm and in construction jobs. Graduating in 1948 from Salinas High School, Jim then attended about a year and a half of college in California. In February of 1951, he enlisted with the U.S. Marine Corps. He served his country in the Korean War from 1952-1953 as a Staff Sergeant, and was based out of Camp Pendleton. He received an honorable discharge in February of 1954. He then met the love of his life and married Edwina Brown on September 9, 1954. They were married for 44 years when she passed away in June of 1998. Jim spent most of his career after the military working in the life insurance industry as a Superintendent of Agencies, primarily involved with the recruiting of life insurance agents. Jim and Edwina had one daughter, Samantha who survives them both. Samantha and her husband Keith have two children, Chandler and Courtney.
Jim's hobbies and interests included: playing horseshoes, working in his wood shop and building things, and especially going to movies. Jim's older brother, Jack, and his parents are also deceased.
