James (Jim) Francis Mahoney, 86, of Leawood, Kan., passed away peacefully Sat., June 12, 2021, into eternal rest as he moves to his next journey with the Lord.
Jim was born January 3, 1935, in Kansas City, KS., to Thomas P. and Esther (Fisher) Mahoney, the youngest of 4 siblings. He graduated from Hogan High School and attended studies at Kansas State University traveling back and forth to Manhattan, KS. Jim married his lifelong sweetheart, Barbara Jean Vick in 1955, meeting on a date set up by high school best of friends. Living their entire lives in the Kansas City area, Jim and Barbara had six children. Jim careered and worked in the lumber business. Wood was a passion for Jim – from house building to lumber sales to deck building to wooden writing pens. He worked and managed Mission Lumber of then Olathe, KS, retiring after 32 years of service. Jim enjoyed the summer months with family watching softball and baseball in the early years, and camping with the family in Colorado. Family summer vacations were a highlight of the year for all. Jim was a devoted Catholic and servant in Christ's name his entire life.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Thomas Mahoney, sister, Helen O'Connor, and brother John (Jack) Mahoney.
Survivors include his loving wife, Barbara; his daughters, Theresa Fowler (Donald), Deborah Thorpe (Kevin), Brenda Crockett (William), and Margaret Gibson; his sons James Jr. (Nancy) and Michael (Diane) Mahoney, 19 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and counting, and many, many loving in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Jim's life mission was his strong faith in God and his devotion and duty to his family. He was a man of honor and to his word. Jim always presented himself as a role model to others – something all are proud to continue. We love you, we miss you, you will forever be in our thoughts till we meet again in paradise.
Jim plans are to be cremated. A Church mass devoted in his honor is being planned at Cure of Ars later in the year.
