James Alexander Jernigan

June 2, 1988 — November 3, 2021

James Alexander Jernigan, 33, of Overland Park, KS, passed away, November 3, 2021. Known to his family for many years as "JJ", he chose to go by James in High School, but to many he will always by our "JJ".

He was born at Pomona Valley Hospital, June 2, 1988. He lived in the Pomona and La Verne area of California with his mom. At the end of 8th grade, it was decided he needed to go stay with his dad and stepmom in Kansas. He attended Olathe South High school where he was a member of the drumline and marching band. He graduated in 2006.

James worked many different jobs during his brief stay on this earth, Home Depot, FedEx, and Amazon. For the past 3 years he's been at 1A Auto, in Gardner working as a Returns Specialist. Finding his place and excelling in his role.

He is survived by his mother Acia K Francis Jernigan, uncle Lee (Debbi) Francis, maternal grandmother Judie Rose, maternal grandfather Bob Francis, and many cousins and second cousins on his mother's side of the family.

He is also survived by father James "Jim" Jernigan, stepmother Renae Jernigan, His sister Megan Barr-Jernigan, uncle Steve (Julie) Beauvais, aunt Janette Jernigan-Logue, cousin Steven (Margert) Beauvais and cousin Alex (Courtney) Logue.

He was proceeded in death by his paternal grandfather James M Jernigan, Sr., his paternal grandmother Patricia M Cohagan-Beauvais-Jernigan-Krivenko. His grandfather James Dwight Gastineau "Gas".

James was very active in his church home, Hope Chapel, his passion for the Open Arms ministry was evident by his commitment to the first Saturday of the month being at the church bright and early to help with the food distribution. He was always seeking out others to help because it was where his heart was. He could be found after church on Sunday's talking with others about the Kansas City Chief's. Go Chief's!

Celebration of Life will be held 5:00 PM on Friday November 12, 2021, at Hope Chapel 12480 S Black Bob Rd, Olathe, KS 66062. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in James's honor at visithopechapel.com/give. Select "Give Online" button, and then choosing OPEN ARMS from the drop down menu.
