James William Jensen, 85, Olathe, KS, formally of Davenport, IA passed away peacefully Friday, March 1, 2019 at St. Luke's Hospice House, Kansas City, MO. Per Jim's wishes, cremation will be accorded at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Olathe, KS. A private family memorial to celebrate Jim's life will be Saturday, March 16, 2019.
Jim was born February 2, 1934 in Minneapolis, MN to Elvar and Elsie Jensen. Jim married Gwendolyn Franks August 22, 1953. Jim and Gwen celebrated their 65th anniversary in 2018, always taking care of each other and their family. Jim spent most of his career in the cement industry, retiring from LaFarge Corp. Jim and Gwen retired to Florida, where they enjoyed golfing and playing bridge and making many new friends. In 2013, Jim and Gwen moved to Olathe, KS to be closer to family.
Jim, having a passion for flying received his private pilots license. Jim enjoyed traveling to new places in the country and abroad. Jim and Gwen loved attending their grandchildren's activities and sporting events. Jim became a big fan of the Kansas City Royals and University of Kansas J-Hawks and a longtime fan of Iowa Hawkeyes.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Gwen, five children, daughter Nancy and sons Jim (Bette), Corey (Kathy), Colin (Mickey), Mike (Julie), grandchildren, Niki, Natalie (Troy), Michael (Lena), Kelley, Casey (Kelsie), Kristy (Danny), Katie (Chris), Jake, and Emily, great grandchildren, Lena, Toren, Evie, Connor, Maddy, Zachary, Oliver and Abigail. Brothers Al, Gordon, Gary, Greg and Bob.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his Grandma Shannon, grandson Kyle, and sister Patty.
The family would like to thank the Staff at St. Luke's Hospice, Kansas City, MO, where memorials may be made in lieu of flowers. They are wonderful people that treat patients and family with such compassion and dignity.
