James "Jim" Ellenberger, 76, passed away on February 14, 2025, in Olathe, Kansas. He was born on April 10, 1948, in Lenexa, Kansas.
Jim proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy and was a Vietnam veteran. His service was a defining chapter of his life, instilling in him a deep sense of camaraderie and resilience that remained with him throughout the years. He retired from the Marine Corps Finance Center after many years of service.
A man known for his sharp wit and ever-present sense of humor, Jim had a knack for teasing those around him in a way that brought laughter and warmth. His sarcasm was legendary among friends and family, always delivered with affection and good-natured charm. He cherished his friendships deeply and found joy in sharing stories, jokes, and memories with those closest to him.
Jim had a lifelong love for animals and classic cars. Whether he was tending to his garden or out fishing on a quiet afternoon, he found peace in the simple pleasures of life. One of his greatest joys was watching his grandchildren play sports and perform—he was their biggest fan, always cheering them on with pride. Music also played an important role in his life; he especially loved listening to The Beatles, their songs serving as the soundtrack to many cherished moments.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Terumi Ellenberger; his daughter, Sarah Ellenberger; and his grandchildren—Cameron Jackson, Maya Jackson, Cooper Jackson, and Tate Jackson. He also leaves behind his brother Jody Ellenberger and sister Connie Burke. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Alice Ellenberger; his siblings Sandy Weers, Mike Ellenberger, and Tonie Manns.
Jim’s memory will live on through the laughter he shared and the love he gave so freely. May those who knew him find comfort in remembering the joy he brought into their lives.
