James Ronald Dieren

June 4, 1949 — July 21, 2021

James "Jim" Dieren passed away on July 21, 2021, at age 72.

He was born in Rock Rapids, Iowa, to Paul and Martha Dieren. He dedicated his life to God and his family. Forty-seven years ago he married his love, Margaret (Droste), and they raised three girls, Ann, Terese, and Lea.

Jim is survived by his wife, Margaret, and daughters Ann (Shawn) Spry, Terese (David) Root, and Lea (Richard) Polic. He was the proud grandpa to Jacob and Ryan Sattler (Ann and Shawn Spry) and Adrienne, Maggie, and Natalie Root (Terese and David Root).
He was the youngest brother to his surviving siblings Lavonne (Eli) Schmidt, Anna (Bill Laird) Shaffer, and Robert (Donna) Dieren. Jim was blessed with many nieces and nephews, all surviving. He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Martha (Wynthein) Dieren.

Jim grew up in northwestern Iowa on a farm and enjoyed playing cards on lengthy school bus rides and playing fast pitch softball. He attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and majored in accounting. After graduation, he enlisted in the US Army and served at Fort Leavenworth. One magical night at a St. Mary's mixer, he met his love, Marge. They had their first date at the Kansas City Zoo and married the next year. Together they moved throughout the midwest raising their girls. Jim enjoyed being outdoors, wood working, bike riding, visiting museums, listening to music and walking during sunset with Marge. Jim and Marge returned to the Kansas City area in 2001. During Jim's bonus years, after surviving his stroke, he enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow, completing puzzles, rooting on the Kansas City Chiefs along with watching baseball (GO Yankees & Royals!). Jim's favorite date night with Marge was attending 4pm Mass on Saturday followed by dining out.

Jim's memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday, July 30, 2021, at 10:30am at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 11300 W 103rd Street, Overland Park, Kansas. The Rosary will precede the Mass and will begin at 9:30am.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation for Mass or to the Kansas City Zoo may be made in Jim's honor.
