JAMES A. COCHRAN
James A. Cochran, 88, passed away, Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Olathe. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to the Church.
Jim was born March 19, 1917, in Fort Scott, KS, the youngest child of Arthur and Addie Cochran. He attended schools there, graduating from the Fort Scott Junior College in May, 1937.
After he taught for a year in a one-room school at Little River, KS and after which he enrolled in a Kansas City Aircraft Engine School. He worked at Cessna Aircraft Plant in Wichita for 2 years.
He married Mary Jean Davidson (McGee) on January 6, 1943 leading to a marriage of 63 years. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, sister, and two brothers.
Jim was a veteran of WWII serving in the Army Air Force as a propeller Engine Specialist. After WWII he rturned to Oalthe to learn watch repair under the GI Bill. From 1947-1953 he and Mary owned and operated Cochran's Jewelry in Osawatomie, KS. They returned to Olathe in 1960 and purchased Modern Sales Company with they operated until 1977. He retired in 1984 having been the part-time custodian of First Presbyterian Church and part-time funeral support staff at Frye Funeral Home.
He served for 30 years on the board of the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery East of Olathe, and was a leader for the Oxford Hustlers 4-H Club of Johnson County for 18 years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church for 51 years where he served as a youth sponsor, Sunday School teacher, a Deacon and an Elder.
Also surviving are sons; Alan, David & wife Carol, Arthur & wife Joan, and Reverend Jeff Cochran
