James "Jim" Pearman Brooks, 90, of Olathe, passed away on April 14, 2017. He was born on December 23, 1926 to Roswell and Virginia (Dyson) Brooks in Richmond, VA.
A veteran of WWII, Jim served in the United States Navy aboard an LST in the Pacific Ocean. Following discharge from the Navy, Jim married Esther Eleanor (Thymian) of Rothsay, MN and they moved to Richmond, VA. Jim's career of 30 years with the ADT Company moved the family from Richmond to Syracuse, NY and finally to Minneapolis, MN. Jim and Esther both retired in 1989 and moved to Olathe, KS to be near their daughter, Lynette, where they have lived for the past 28 years.
While living in Olathe, Jim lived a very active life serving the College Church of the Nazarene in various volunteer roles. He especially enjoyed the role of being a "communication link" for the members of the "His Fellowship" Sunday School Class sharing information and prayer requests with all the members of the class through email. In 2013, Jim recruited a group of WWII veterans from the Olathe area to join him on the Honor Flight tour of the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. Jim and Esther also served as a precinct chairpersons for the Republican Party for several years.
It was in 1958 that Jim accepted Christ as his personal Savior. The remainder of his life was marked by a sincere desire to honor his Lord through a commitment to personal spiritual growth and service to the Church and to others. Those who knew him well will miss his engaging and helpful personality.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Esther; children, Larry Brooks (Susan), Lynette Fastnacht (Jim), Cynthia Phelps (Dick), Beverly Lewis; brother, William Brooks; 8 grandchildren; 19
great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Gladys Mae Brooks, Eunice Page, and Irvin Brooks.
The family will receive guests for a visitation on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, from 1:00-2:00 pm at College Church of the Nazarene's main sanctuary in Olathe, KS. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 pm also at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the His Fellowship SS class.
