James J. "Jim" Bartle, 85, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, November 9, 2014 at Olathe Medical Center Hospice House in Olathe, Kansas. Jim was born December 2, 1928 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Ellsworth and Gertrude Bartle. He was a member of the Field Kindley High School class of 1946 and after graduation was employed with the Missouri Pacific Railroad. During WWII, Jim served 2 years in the US Army, stationed in Colorado, before receiving an honorable discharge. He returned to Coffeyville and obtained an associate's degree from Coffeyville Community Junior College.
On June 7, 1955, Jim was united in marriage to Dolores Y. Hoff. He then began his lifelong career with the US Postal Service as a letter carrier, a career which spanned 40 years. Jim was an active member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville, where he served as an usher and a member of the Knights of Columbus. In 1996, Jim and Dee moved to Olathe, Kansas to be closer to their 2 daughters and 5 grandchildren. Jim was a quiet and kind man, with a gentle spirit and a huge heart. God and family were the focus of Jim's life. He was happiest spending time at home, taking care of his house, yard and cars. There was nothing he couldn't fix.
Surviving to honor his memory are his wife Dolores of the home, daughter Lisa (Bob) Begley of Kansas City, Missouri, daughter Beth Spafford of Olathe, Kansas, and grandchildren Jordan, Chris, Dani, Patrick, and Alexander. Jim was preceded in death by his mother and father, and brothers Ted and Jack Bartle.
Cremation has taken place, and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville in the spring, with burial taking place at Calvary Cemetery.
