Jacob J. Nicolay, 29, of Spring Hill, Kansas, passed away on March 14, 2022, at Kansas City Hospice House, with his family by his side. Jacob fought a courageous battle with cancer not once but twice.
He graduated High School from Saint James Academy, and went on to earn his Bachelor's Degree in Nursing at Missouri Western State University. As a high school senior, he was a recipient of the KMBC Larry Moore College Scholarship.
Jacob enjoyed a career as a Registered Nurse where he was passionate about taking care of pediatric patients and as a chemotherapy nurse prior to his recent illness. He was a member of American Nursing Association.
Jacob was a very kind, generous and gentle spirit. He lived life to its fullest. He loved to go 4-Wheeling, Horseback Riding, Hiking, Zip-lining and traveling (anywhere warm). He enjoyed working with and training the family dog (Magnum) and his newest best friend Zuko, who he was training. Prior to COVID he loved working out at the gym with his friends and going to spin classes. He was a recipient of the Dream Factory's Make a Dream, when he battled cancer at age 5. He was a child spokesperson for the Dream Factory and Belfonte Ice Cream. He volunteered as a Dream Factory worker in his teens. His family and friends were the most important thing to Jacob throughout his life!
He was born on February 4, 1993, to Monte and Lori (Drakulich) Nicolay in Shawnee, KS. He is survived by his parents and brother Zachary Nicolay, Lawrence KS, Grandparents Sharon Monaghan, Overland Park, KS and Mary Ann Nicolay, Eudora KS, Aunts & Uncles Jodi McAtee, Shawnee, KS, Kaci & (Eric) Miranda Temecula, CA, and cousins.
Jacob was preceded in death by his Grandfather, Rex Nicolay & his Uncle, Mark Nicolay.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, March 19th at 11:00 a.m. at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Wea, KS. Visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., with Recitation of the Rosary at 9:30 a.m. A luncheon will follow the services and burial.
