Irene married James William Hayes, Sr. on May 4, 1941 in Kansas City, MO, where they raised their family of four children. As the co—owner of the family business, Hayes Tooling and Plastics, she worked with her husband for many years, retiring in 1999.
She was active in the A.B.W.A., and the Olathe Chamber of Commerce, St. Anthony's (Prince of Peace Catholic Church), and the UNO Club.
Surviving are her children; James "Buzz" Hayes, Deborah McCarty, Don Hayes, and Gary Hayes, 7 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Mary May, her husband, and 5 brothers and 5 sisters.
