Irene Boucher, age 85, passed away on June 6, 2006 at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, Kansas. Irene was born November 23, 1920, to John and Anna Linenberger at McCracken, Kansas the 11th born in a family of 1`4 children. She graduated from LaCrosse, Kansas High School in 1938 and went on to nurse's training at Halstead, Kansas School of Nursing. She received her nursing diploma and R.N. Certificate in 1941. Immediately after graduation she stared her nursing career at St. Anthony Hospital in Hays. Irene was married to Eli Boucher on November 25, 1942 at LaCrosse, Kansas.
A rosary will be held at 7pm friday at the funeral home.
Irene spent 39 years in hospital nursing in Lincoln, Nebraska, Topeka, Concordia and Hays, Kansas. Thirty-two of those years were at St. Anthony Hospital in Hays, which later became Hays Medical Center. She also assisted doctors on many occasions with clinics for school children, athletes and other community services. Irene was a dedicated nurse, giving her patients complete and loving care was a passion of hers and not just a job. Her soft-spoken words of comfort and encouragement and her skilled patient care made her patients feel better when she entered the room. Her total commitment and loving care for her patient was exceeded only by the commitment and loving care for her family. She took great pride in the many thank you notes she received by mail or in person from her former patients.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents and seven brothers and six sisters. She is survived by her husband of the home and five children, Cheryl and her husband Richard Wunder of Olathe, Michele and her husband Max Heidrick of Beloit, KS, Greg and his wife Linda of Athens, GA, Brian and his wife Margaret of Alma, KS, and Dana and his fiancée Jeanette Alexander of Fairway, KS She is also survived by eleven grandchildren an six great grandchildren.
Contributions are welcome to the Beloit Hospital Chapel Fund, Beloit, Kansas and/or the FHSU Half Century Club Scholarship Fund, Hays, Kansas.
