Iona Mae Thrailkill, 89, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Aberdeen Village on Sunday, March 14, 2021. She was born on December 4, 1931 near Diagonal, Iowa to Frank and Ethel (Blauer) Dolecheck.
Iona graduated from Mt Ayr high school, and American Institute of Business (AIB) of Des Moines IA in executive secretary studies. She worked in various capacities as Ringgold County Recorder, for City of Waterloo, IA, National Dairy Council, and retired from Olathe KS District Schools food production center. She enjoyed being a homemaker for 15 years while raising her two daughters. Iona loved being with family, cooking, sewing, crocheting (afghans and pot holders), was an avid gardener, and enjoyed helping others with her talents. She was the most loving, caring, kind, gentle, giving, humble, and thoughtful sister, mother and grandmother. She would say she was lucky for her daughters and family, but they were the lucky ones. She blessed the world around her with her happy and warm presence.
Iona is survived by her two daughters Charlene Ludwig (Ken) and Laura Nelson (Steve). Her two brothers Ivan Dolecheck (Leola), Leland Dolecheck (Sandra), and sister Karen Wimer (Jerry). Her grandchildren Kaylyn Bartels (Collin), Becca Ludwig, Matthew Nelson (Charley), Jacob Nelson, and one great grandchild Skyler Nelson. She is preceded in death by her parents Frank and Ethel Dolecheck, her two husbands Robert Thrailkill, and Kenneth Davenport (killed in action during the Korean War).
