Ian Christopher Matlosz, 49, of Shawnee, Kansas, departed this life on Saturday, April 29, 2023, after a valiant struggle against cancer.
Ian grew up an "Army Brat," who lived all over the world. He was a certified aircraft private pilot, which fueled his lifetime love of astronomy. His passions included cycling, travel, soccer, and Military history, but mostly looking at the stars with his beloved daughter, Julia Rose.
After graduating from the University of Central Missouri, Ian spent several years as an Apache helicopter mechanic for the Missouri National Guard at Whiteman Air Force Base. More recently, after earning certifications in information technology, Ian was employed by Compass Minerals as an Infrastructure Engineer.
Ian is survived by his loving parents, Henry Matlosz and Patricia Matlosz; his daughter, Julia Rose Matlosz; his sister, Hillary Matlosz; brother-in-law, Clifford Fowler; and treasured niece, Hailey Gastler; Godmother, aunt Theresa Jung and husband Yee Jung; Godfather, uncle Dave Matlosz and wife Shilpa Puttaraju; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Helen Matlosz, Henry Matlosz, Anna Flynn, and Gerard Flynn; uncles, William Matlosz and Edward Flynn; and his aunt, Mary Lou Flynn.
A Celebration of Ian's life will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, May 5, 2023, at the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection's Wesley Chapel, 13720 Roe Ave, Leawood, KS 66224.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to either Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care, 9001 State Line Rd #300, Kansas City, MO 64114 or to the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection.
