Howard E. Randall, 84, passed away Sunday April 2, 2006 at the home of a granddaughter in Overland Park, KS after a short illness. Born to Elmer James Randall and Buelah Wright in Merwin, MO July 13, 1921, he moved to Olathe in 1930 from Goodrich in Linn County, KS.
Howard joined the National Guard in 1938 and was called to Army service in December 1940 at Camp Robinson, Arkansas. In December 1941 he was shipped to the Aleutians Islands and went ashore at Amchitka, Alaska. Following World War II he was employed by the Kansas Highway Department 1947-1952 and then for 30 years with Schlup Engineering and Schlup, Becker & Brennan Engineering. He was involved with engineering work and inspection for the Kansas City to Lawrence section of the Kansas Turnpike and on many bridges, highway and tunnel projects in the greater Kansas City area prior to retirement in 1986.
He married Mary V. Ahlstrom on May 7, 1944. They met in high school when he was an athlete and she was a high school cheer leader living with her family
