Henrietta L. Blume

August 5, 1936 — June 7, 2020

Henrietta (Wolff) Blume, age 83, passed away June 7, 2020 in Olathe, KS.

Please join family and friends for a Celebration of Henrietta's life on August 15, 2020 from 2-4 p.m. at the Olathe Community Center, 1205 E. Kansas City Rd., Olathe, KS 66061. Private family interment at Scott City, KS.

Henrietta was born and raised in Garden City, KS. She was the oldest of four sisters. Her parents, Henry and Mena Wolff, preceded her in death, as did one sister, Lois Harvey.

Her High School yearbook summary stood the test of time: she was described as "always laughing, never sad, sometimes naughty, but never bad." Henrietta's ambitions were to go to college and go to California. She did that, and so much more. She graduated from McPherson, KS college, and enjoyed a long career as a public and private school teacher in both Kansas and California.

Henrietta married Lorance Blume of Scott City, KS in 1956. He preceded her in death in 2012. His early military career took them to Germany, where they lived in an apartment off base, and spent their free time traveling around Europe. They returned to Kansas afterward, and lived in Hutchinson for many years. In the late 70s, the family moved to San Marcos, CA, far exceeding another of Henrietta's ambitions. She didn't just visit California, she lived there for almost 30 years.

Henrietta loved living in California. She combed the beaches for interesting rocks, and painted hundreds over the years for fun and gifts. She was a huge fan of the Rose Bowl Parade, going in person as often as possible to see the floats up close, and to smell the amazing florals along the parade route.

Playing bridge was Henrietta's favorite pastime. She played in various card groups all her life. Most recently she enjoyed playing cards with the Active Agers at the Olathe Community Center, and playing with other friends in various restaurants. She enjoyed the Active Agers bus trips, and had a great time visiting Eureka Springs, AR, and Kansas City area spots of interest.

Henrietta is survived by her three children, Lorelle Mennel of Overland Park, KS; Kevin Blume of Nickerson, KS; and Curtis Blume of Playa Del Rey, CA. Three grandchildren, Nathan Mennel, Christopher Blume, and Lacey Brown. Two great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Carol Miller of Deerfield, KS, and Shirl Miller of Rogers, AR, also survive.

Memorials to the Active Agers program. Please make checks to the Olathe Parks and Rec Foundation and note "Henrietta Blume" in the memo section. Mail to the Olathe Community Center, c/o Elizabeth Preston; 1205 E. Kansas City Rd., Olathe, KS 66061.
