Henrietta Anderson

Henrietta Slavens Anderson, 92, died November 16, 2010, at Olathe Medical Center. The family suggests contributions to the National Breast Cancer Research Center, P.O. Box 96676, Washington, DC 20090 or St. Peters Cemetery at Big Springs KS c/o the funeral home.

She was born February 9, 1918, in Lecompton KS. She was the youngest of eight children born to Mabelle Spangler Slavens and Robert Burns Slavens.

Henrietta attended schools in Lecompton, graduating from Lecompton High School in 1935. In 1936, she graduated from Strayer Business College, Washington D.C. She worked in D.C. for various government agencies until transferring to Kansas City, Missouri in 1939. While in Kansas City, Missouri she worked for the Intelligence Unit of the Internal Revenue Service.

She married Lt. Leo Anderson in 1943 at Camp Gordon Johnston, Florida. They lived for many years in Washington D.C. and San Diego, California.

Henrietta was always an avid reader and sports enthusiast. She excelled in sports in high school, and played golf and tennis until returning to Olathe in 1994 to be near her family.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Kathleen Finn.

Henrietta is survived by her husband Leo Anderson, of the home, her son, Leo Anderson II, Wichita KS, four grandsons, Robert Anderson, New York City, Mark Anderson, Minneapolis KS, Christopher Finn, Overland Park KS and Daniel Finn of Olathe, and two great-grandchildren.
