HELEN JANE NICKELS WELCH
Passed away Friday, May 5, 2006 in Olathe, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Music Fund at First Baptist Church.
Helen was born September 7, 1924 in Wamego, Kansas to Galen and Grace Nickels. She attended Eastman School of Music in New York. She graduated from Emporia State Teachers College in 1947 with a degree in music education and piano. She married James J. Welch on May 23, 1947. Helen was an avid baseball fan and loved to take walks. She was an accompanist at many churches throughout her life, including First Baptist Church of Olathe. She spent many years teaching and directing high school music students.
She is survived by her husband and her two children, Marshall Welch of Salt Lake City, Utah and Elizabeth Newman of Olathe, her sister Dorothy Dimit of Winfield, Kansas and five grandchildren.
