Helen Rosalee Murphy

Helen Rosalee Murphy, 90, of Spring Hill, passed away on June 14, 2017. She was born on April 30, 1927 to Harvey and Retta (Holly) Evans in Neodesha, KS.

Helen graduated from Neodesha High School in 1945, played piano and sang in the church choir. Helen had a natural flair for dancing and often attended local dances. It was at a dance that she met Edward T. Murphy and they spent the rest of their lives dancing together every chance they could. Helen and Ed married on December 15, 1949 at St. Ingatius Catholic Church in Neodesha, KS. They later moved to Independence, MO and had four children. Helen attending cosmetology school in Independence, enjoyed gardening, church choir and dance clubs. The family moved to Olathe, KS in 1969 where she stayed home to raise her children and later worked food service in the Olathe School District.

Helen is survived by her loving children Judy Hawley, Jim Murphy, John Murphy (Diana) and Carol George (Phil) and her sister Joyce Klingenberg (Richard), 16 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Grand children and great grand children include Christy Hennigh (Jason) and their children Micheala, Austin Tyler and Antonia; Harold Hawley (Yassenia) and their son Andy; Tommy Hawley (Brianna) and their children Shelby, Les and Cole; Granddaughter Amanda Foster (Luke); Grandsons Troy Foster, Andrew George and Joshua George; Grandson Brian Murphy (Carrie) and their daughter Cheyenne; Granddaughter Amy Klein (Dan); Granddaughter Rachelle Meyer and son Leon Sleater.

She was preceded in death by her parents Harvey and Retta Evans, two sisters Ruby Corwin (Jack) and Fern Calvert (Alex) of Neodesha, KS and her husband of 57 years, Edward T. Murphy.

The Memorial Mass will be held at 10am on Saturday, June 17, 2017, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Olathe, KS. Followed by burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Olathe, KS.

The family would like to sincerely thank the care givers of BlackHawk Assisted Living, Spring Hill KS and Crossroads Hospice for their loving care and joy they shared with Helen during her final years. Memorial contributions may be given to Crossroads Hospice & Palliative Care, 11150 Thompson Ave, Lenexa, KS 66219.
