Helen C. Crowl

October 25, 1920 — November 17, 2017

On the crisp morning of October 25, 1920, premature twins were born to Herman and Mary Wiard of Sedalia, KS. Weighing in at under three pounds, they both lived into their 90's. The youngest, Helen Crowl, passed away November 17, 2017.

During her life, she helped with the dairy farm and designed houses along with her husband, Alex Crowl, whom she was married to for forty years. They had two daughters, Marjorie Crowl and Judy Williams. Helen cooked at sorority and fraternity houses at Kansas State University and spent the last ten years of her employment working in the safety deposit department at the (then) First National Bank in Manhattan, KS.

After retirement, she made in excess of thirty quilts with hand stitches so small and even that one would think it had been done on a machine instead of by hand.

Over the years she made countless pies and there was none better to enjoy.

She is preceded in death by her twin brother, Herman Wiard and his wife, Verna Alice.

She is survived by her daughters Marge of Scottsdale, AZ, Judy of Overland Park, KS, adopted daughter, Rosa Cotayo of Scottsdale, AZ, two grand-children Stacy and Alan, three great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and countless friends.

Helen was a life member of the OES, Clay Center Chapter #180, and the Keats Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or to the Keats Methodist Church.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 10:00am at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 S. Blackbob, Olathe, KS.
