Harriet Klingemann Bockelman, born January 9, 1927, one of ten children, she was born the daughter of Henry and Alice Hinze Klingemann, rural Rising City, Nebraska, passed away Friday, June 17, 2016. She was baptized January 27, 1927, and confirmed April 6, 1941, both at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rising City, Nebraska.
After graduating from David City High School in 1945, she worked for the Douglas County Abstract Company in Omaha, Nebraska.
On April 19, 1950, she married Air Force Staff Sergeant Melvin F. Bockelman at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Omaha, Nebraska. Three children were born of this marriage, Mel Jr., Ronald David and Diane Marie Bockelman.
The couple and their family were stationed in London, England, Omaha, Nebraska, Kansas City, Missouri, Honolulu, Hawaii, and Colorado Springs, Colorado. After retirement from the Air Force in 1966, the family moved to Kansas City for twelve years and then settled in Concordia, Missouri.
In Kansas City, Harriet was Director of the Cerebral Palsy Clinic. In Concordia, Harriet volunteered with the Red Cross at the Good Sheppard Lutheran Home. She also taught Sunday School for the developmentally disabled at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Honolulu, Colorado Springs and St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Concordia.
Three months ago she and Mel moved to Lenexa, Kansas, to be closer to their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of sixty-six years, Melvin, three children: Mel Jr. and his wife, Rebecca, Ronald and his wife, Becky, and daughter Diane Bockelman; one sister, two sisters-in-law; six grandchildren, Amy, David, Joel, Beth, Luke, Katy; ten great-grandchildren: Isaias, Hailey, Jaden, Collin, Gage, Miller, Leo, Skylar, Savannah and one on the way.
Services will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2016, at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 13145 Blackbob Road, Olathe, KS with visitation from noon to 1:00 and the service beginning at 1:00. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to: Bethesda Faith Village, 14150 W. 113th Street, Lenexa, KS 66215.
