Harold Walter Turntine, or "Bud" and "Buddy", as he was affectionately called by all, passed away on September 20th, 2022. He was born in Topeka, KS where he spent the first half of his life before moving to Shawnee, KS. Bud was a board certified Ocularist for over 35 years, trained through apprenticeship and worked at Duffens Optical before starting his own practice in the Kansas City area, Turntine Ocular Prosthetics. He served the American Society of Ocularists as both vice president and president advocating above and beyond the job description for his fellow Ocularists. Always a creative problem solver, Bud loved his work because it allowed him to use his artistic skills in hand painting realistic eyes and it gave him the daily opportunity to help people in a meaningful way. He loved every patient that came through his office and treated them with dignity and great respect.
At home, Bud was always on the go and loved to try new restaurants, shop for antiques, cook wonderful food, travel all over the United States, appreciate various art exhibits, attend concerts, and spend lots of quality time with his family and friends. As a man of great faith, Bud served the church as a worship singer for many years alongside his wife, Tami. He loved to learn new things that supported his interests and took various classes throughout his life including travel agent certification. He appreciated the large and the small moments of life from savoring his travels on cruises, at beaches, and in National Parks to bragging on his wife's proclivity for arranging seasonal home decor and cooking delicious chicken piccata. He enjoyed sharing these experiences with his family perhaps even more than he enjoyed experiencing them himself. He was a tremendously loving husband, father, grampy, son, son-in-law, brother, and uncle to his family. His strong but gentle spirit, rebellious personality, and delightful sense of humor will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Bud is survived by his wife of 41 years, Tamara "Tami" Turntine; children Jourdan (Michael) Holmes, Samuel (Michaela) Turntine; grandchildren Emma Holmes, Maxwell Holmes, Maeve Turntine; parents Harold B. Turntine, Itha Jean Turntine; and siblings Jan (Ron) Ash, Jeanette (Jim) Cummings, Debra Starr and many nieces and nephews.
