Grady Owen Batten, age 70, passed away February 23, 2016 in Olathe, Kanas.
Grady graduated from DuPont High in 1964, and attended Tennessee Tech and University of Tennessee-Knoxville, majoring in engineering and journalism and serving in positions of editor and cartoonist for campus newspapers at both universities. He also received a master's degree in management from Baker University.
Grady was a reporter for the Nashville Tennessean for three years, public relations administrator at two universities for six years, and business owner for 30 years.
In retirement, he taught classes in business management for a university in the Kansas City area. Throughout his life, he was a conservative Christian, a devout family man, and was active in church lay ministries and community youth sports activities.
He and his family are members of College Church of the Nazarene in Olathe, KS. He is survived by his wife Billie Rae Tucker Batten, three children (Stefanie Batten Hunter, Brock Batten, Kyle Batten), son-in-law Scott Hunter, daughters-in-law Julie Lee and Joriva Dana, four grandchildren (Taylor, Hannah, Reagan, Sterling) — with one more grandson on the way in Spring 2016.
Also surviving are his siblings Mary Sue Davis and Paul Batten, sister-in-law Lucy Batten, and several beloved nieces and nephews. Grady and Billie celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary in 2016.
