Grace T. (Miyashiro) Evans, 95, passed away peacefully, Sunday, October 15, surrounded by family.
Grace was born December 3, 1927, in Oahu, Hawaii where she grew up with eleven siblings. This was also where she met and fell in love with Wayne Evans, a US Army Veteran of WWII. The couple was married September 27, 1947. During his service, Grace followed him around the globe with stints in Hawaii, West Point, and Japan, adding a daughter to the family at each assignment. After 20 years of military service, the couple retired to Osceola, MO until 1966, before finally settling in Olathe, KS
.
In retirement, the couple spent their days at the Olathe Lanes West bowling alley racking up the trophies, the local American Legion spending time with friends, or on the lake seeing who could catch the biggest fish. Grace loved to claim that any talents of her children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren came from her or her side of the family. The pride she had in her family was evident throughout her long life.
Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Evans, and seven siblings.
She is survived by her three daughters: Sheila Bourland of Osceola, MO; Barbara Watterson of Olathe, KS; and Judy Gilliam of Thorndale, PA; three siblings: Betty Higa, George Miyashiro, and Robert Miyahsiro all of Oahu, HI; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
