Gladys Klusman

Gladys Marie Klusman, age 89, died February 17, 2014, at Olathe Medical Center.

She was born March 1, 1924 in Bucyrus, Kansas, daughter of John A. and Irene Spielbusch.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Leonard Spielbusch, sister-in-law, Bertha Spielbusch, brother-in-law, Ernie Klusman, and son, Robert James Klusman.

Gladys is survived by her husband of 69 years, Carl Klusman, son Larry (Mary) Klusman, daughter-in-law Barbara Klusman, daughter Patricia (Don) Lunbeck, son Gary (Kristi) Klusman, daughter Sharon (Jamie) Bausher She has 22 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her her sister Helen Allen (Gene)and her brother John "Jack" Spielbusch (Darlene).

Gladys grew up on a dairy farm in Miami county with her parents, and brothers and sister. Ornery and full of life, she could outrun her brother, Lindy, and climb trees faster than any boy around.

A long time resident of Paola, Kansas, Gladys and Carl made a home and raised their five children. She worked many years as the office manager for State Farm with her husband, Carl. She also worked at Hallmark & Skelly Gas Company.

Gladys was a loving wife, doting mother, and caring grandmother. She took great pride in her family. Vacationing and cooking, holidays and boating were favorite family activities.

In her leisure time, Gladys enjoyed golfing, bowling, shopping, and baking. She loved to play cards with neighbors, friends, and family. Gladys and Carl went to Arizona and Texas to camp for several months each winter. Many friendships were made during these trips.

One of her many joys was volunteering her time with the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Paola, Kansas.

Gladys had a special gift of making everyone feel special, she welcomed everyone as part of the family. She was kind, giving, and loving and will be dearly missed.
