GERALD "JERRY" W. TOMANEK
Age 85, passed away November 29, 2006 at his home in Olathe, KS. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Jerry and Ardis Tomanek Graduate Assistantship, P.O. Box 1060, Hays, KS 67601.
Jerry was born on September 16, 1921 in Gove County, KS, to John and Hazel Tomanek. He served our country in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. For over forty years he enjoyed a career as an educator, and was appointed as the President of Fort Hays State University. After retiring, Jerry dedicated his time and efforts to furthering the education of others through administering scholarships. He also loved fishing and hunting, spending time with his family, and getting out into the prairie lands of Kansas.
He is survived by his children; Walta Stanton and her husband Dick, Independence, MO, Sheila Bainter and her husband Everet, Casper, WY, and Lisa Richards and her husband Paul, Gardner, KS, his brother John Marvin Tomanek, Phoenix, AZ, grandchildren; Christy, Mark, Lori, Michelle, Todd, Ashley, Natasha, Austin, Paul II, Vanessa, Amanda, and Samantha, great-grandchildren; Amy, Richard, Briana, Tyler, Alana and Jaydn. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ardis Tomanek, in 1996.
