Gerald Edward Snider, 78, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2022.
He was born August 10, 1943, in Coffeyville, Kansas to Joe C. and Kathryn Young Snider.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Connie, and their two children, Cori (Chris) Anderson of Lawrence; and Jeremy (Janie) Snider of Overland Park. He is also survived by his six grandchildren: Christopher, Chad, and Cole Anderson; Devynn (Grant Coleman), Milo, and Blake Snider, and his great-grandchild, Colt. His sister, Donna Snider Roddy of Raeford, NC, survives, as well.
Jerry had a good sense of humor and was quick to laugh. Jerry graduated from Riverton High School and went on to earn a BSE from Emporia State University, a MS from Pittsburg State University, and his Ph.D. from Michigan State University. Jerry's only regret was that he would be unable to see all of his grandchildren graduate from college.
He taught theatre and directed plays for Iola and Shawnee Mission South High Schools and Johnson County Community College. He served as the first Director of Cultural Education for the Carlsen Center at JCCC. He was also an award-winning director and actor in local community theatres, including OCTA, Barn Players, Sr. Barn Players, and Actor's Choice. After his retirement in 1997, he worked for Shawnee Mission Theatre in the Park and Leawood Parks and Recreation. He and Connie enjoyed traveling to all 50 states, Ireland, Japan, Norway, Paris, London, the Baltic Sea, and the Holy Land.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 18 at St. Thomas the Apostle at 6:30 PM. Episcopal Church in Overland Park. A reception will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Jerry Snider to St. Thomas The Apostle Episcopal Church or a charity of your choice.
