George Reinemuth

August 13, 1939 — December 17, 2015

"Oh, for crying out loud!" George Horst Reinemuth, 76, of Olathe, reluctantly passed away at his home after a well-fought 16 year battle with cancer on December 17, 2015. He was born on August 13, 1939 to Otto and Mathilde Reinemuth in Mannheim, Germany.

He attended the University of Toledo, served 18 months in Germany for the US Army and received a Masters of Mechanical Engineering at Penn State. He had a successful engineering career working for Gulf & Western Corporation and The Jade Corporation. He lived in Toledo, OH, Brookhaven and Glen Mills, PA and Olathe, KS. He sponsored children through Compassion International and contributed to UMCOR, St. Joseph's Indian School in SD, and Cancer Research.

George certainly lived life to the fullest and his guiding principle was The Golden Rule. George loved games (winning them, not so much losing them), computers, kayaking, music, singing, creating treasure hunts and going on his own treasure hunts by traveling to the far corners of the world. He loved his kids and grand kids and took hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of photos and videos of them, his friends, and his adventures with his wife all over the world. He loved wordplay, whether it be a good game of Scrabble, a funny joke he would share, a special poem he would write for his grandchildren, or a clever limerick or lyrics he created to roast a friend. He would probably get a kick out of the fact that an anagram of his name is "Heterogeneous Mr. Right."

George is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Hannelore, his daughters Kim (Stuart) Barden and Patricia (Kenneth) Gau, his grandchildren; Emma and Katelyn Gau and Calvin and Tessa Barden, and his sisters Ursula Barrett, Carin Gregory, and Ingrid Edwards.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Cancer Research Institute, One Exchange Plaza, 55 Broadway, Suite 1802, New York, NY 10006 or to Compassion International. Services will be held at a later date.
